Australian National Commission for UNESCO
The Australian National Commission for UNESCO is the Australian Government focal point for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The National Commission provides expert analysis and policy advice to the Australian Government on UNESCO matters and acts as a point of liaison between government, the community and UNESCO in Australia.
UNESCO was established in 1946 as a specialised agency of the United Nations. UNESCO's mandate includes education, the natural sciences, the social and human sciences, culture and communications/information technology. Australia is a founding member. UNESCO-L'Oréal Fellowships for Young Women in Life Sciences - 2013
US$40,000 UNESCO-L'Oréal International Fellowships
15 UNESCO-L'Oréal International Fellowships (of which three are awarded in the Asia-Pacific region) are available to young women who are carrying out research in life sciences all over the world. These fellowships are aimed at female candidates pursuing research at the doctoral or post-doctoral level and will be granted in 2013. Each of the International Fellowships is valued at up to US$40,000 and may cover a period of up to two years.
Australia may nominate up to four candidates, who are shortlisted by the Australian National Commission for UNESCO. The Australian National Commission for UNESCO encourages interested young researchers to apply.
Candidates are encouraged to submit their applications via the online platform. The deadline for the submission of individual requests through this platform is 15 June 2012. Candidates may also submit their application to the Australian National for UNESCO in hard copy or via email (email is strongly preferred). Applications should reach the National Commission Secretariat well in advance of this deadline (by 15 June at the latest) to allow for their consideration.

The Young Professional Programme is a UNESCO initiative for candidates from un-represented or under-represented countries in the UNESCO Secretariat.
For the information of potential applicants, Australia has not been invited to nominate candidates for the YPP in the current intake.
